    Girl Scout Camping Trip/Water Park

We left Friday, 8/11/06, at 6:30 from Julie's house (troop leader). We had 9 girls and 4 adults going with us. My truck was full of the camping gear and I drove by myself. I bring my tent, a tent for the girls, the camping stoves and cooking equipment. I also carry the girl’s bags and sleeping bags.

The girls were in 3 other cars. We arrived at the camp ground around 8:30pm and it was getting dark fast. I got the girls started on setting up their tent and had the other Dad help them. I had to set up my tent in the dark, but I have a special flashlight that attaches to my head, so it was able to see pretty well. We ended up having 4 tents. It was too late to get a campfire going and the girls wanted to be in their tent to talk. I have learned, just how much, the girls enjoy the “social” aspect of camping. Which really is good. Outside of Girl Scouts, they all have other friends and different groups they hang out with, but when they are all together in a meeting or on a camping trip, they blend together very well (most of the time).

The next morning, I woke up at 6:30am, made coffee and enjoyed the nice, peaceful morning. I woke the girls at 7:30 and we had a quick breakfast before going to the water park. We arrived there at 10am, got our tickets and enjoyed the park all day until 6pm. They have a wave pool. A water roller coaster, many different water slides. It was such a great place to spend the day! All of the love the water so much.

Saturday evening we had a nice campfire and cooked a great dinner that had ground beef, carrots, peas, onions, potatoes wrapped in Tin Foil and placed on the fire coals to cook. They came out very good. After dinner, the girls made “S’mores” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S'more

The rest of the evening was sitting by the campfire and talking and enjoying the cool evening.

I woke at 6:30 Sunday morning. It was a very cool, very beautiful morning. The sun was coming up over the trees and the grass area was wet with the morning dew. I made coffee using my camping stove and enjoyed the beautiful morning. The girls finally woke up at 8am. For breakfast, they cooked eggs on the camping stove and bacon in my big frying pan on the campfire. Cooking and cleaning always take a long time. After that, we cleaned up, took down all the tents and headed for home. I was quite tired when I got home, but had to setup the tents in my back yard because they need to dry completely before being packed away.

Camping with the girls is always an adventure. Photos coming soon!
